WILLIAMSBURG, VA, 3 November 2021: Senate Republican Leader Thomas K. Norment, Jr. (R-James City) today issued the following statement regarding the results of yesterday’s election:
“On behalf of the entire Senate Republican Caucus, I extend our heartfelt and enthusiastic congratulations to Governor-elect Glenn Youngkin, Lieutenant Governor-elect Winsome Sears, and Attorney General-elect Jason Miyares.
“I would also like to extend our congratulations to Republican Leader Todd Gilbert, Republican Caucus Chair Kathy Byron, Republican Whip Jay Leftwich and the entire House Republican Caucus on their impressive gains and strong performance this evening.
“In this election, Virginians voted for quality schoolsthat are responsive and accountable to parents, for an economy that welcomes businesses and increases opportunity, and for neighborhoods that are safe. Senate Republicans are excited about the opportunity to work with our new Governor to implement our shared priorities. We are excited about having an Attorney General who will defend our laws. And, we are thrilled to welcome the next President of the Senate, Lieutenant Governor Winsome Sears.
“These results confirm something Senate Republicans have known for a very long time: Virginia is a highly competitive two-party state. Virginians have wisely decided to restore balance to their government. Our citizens expect their leaders to offer a strong vision for the future and deliver on policies that will improve their quality of life. Senate Republicans stand ready to do our part in
fulfilling that mission.”
